About EMAS

Elisha Mitchell Audubon Society is a chapter of the National Audubon Society, serving Buncombe, Henderson, and surrounding counties in the mountains of western North Carolina.

We are the only NC Audubon chapter that manages a wildlife sanctuary.

We host monthly bird walks at Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary and other local birding spots. Our programs, held seven times per year at the Reuter Center on the UNC Asheville campus, are free and open to the public.

Our Mission

To promote an awareness and appreciation of nature, to preserve and protect wildlife and natural ecosystems, and to encourage responsible environmental stewardship.

EMAS works closely with Audubon NC to support the initiatives of the National Audubon Society. For more information about the work of Audubon NC, contact Kim Brand (email; (336) 391-9614).
